A New Day Dawns & My Competition Winner!

After my last post about the crazy weather and the demise of our dear tree, just look at the fabulous morning that we woke to yesterday.

It was so very beautiful to see the mist rising from the valley.  It gave the whole area a mysterious ethereal look.  I love the photograph that shows the spire of the church at Sauveterre de Rouergue just poking thru the mist.

We were up and out early yesterday as it was  a national holiday celebrating May Day.  There was a large Vide Grenier at Villefranche de Rouergue.  We drove along in blinding sunshine, the clarity of light was superb.  Occasionally, when the light is right, you can see the Pyrenees in the distance and yesterday was one of those wonderful days.  It really lifts your heart to see those huge snow clad mountains dominating the horizon, especially when we have only seen them 3 times in 8 years.  As we dropped down into Villefranche de Rouergue we were slowly submerged into the mist.  When we arrived at the Vide Grenier, it was very murky and like a different world to the one we had just descended from.  However, a little later the mist began to clear and as it did, I took this photograph, showing what a beautiful day it was becoming.
The day then got even better because we met up with M, my adorable friend and her gorgeous family and sat in the sunshine drinking strong coffee and stronger beers!  What more could we ask for.

We then returned home.  The competition that I was running ended yesterday and I needed to do the draw to see who would win the 10 antique invoices.  Now that was not too hard as only one person had entered my competition.  I don't know if you would know that, so maybe I should have dressed it up a bit and said that I spent hours cutting up the names to put into a hat.  That I asked the local Mayor to draw the winner and due to the number of entrants, the local paper had took and interest and were running a story on it....... But no, just one very kind person had entered and that very kind person will have the invoices winging there way to her today.

So thank you Diane - these are now yours!

  1. Yahoooo, I love a bit of French in my life!

Janette, sorry and glad that I was the only entrant. I can't believe how beautiful the scenery is where you are. That mist makes it look so magical. I must get down that way. Did you buy any goodies at the Vide?

Many thanks. Loving following your travels!

  2. Hi Di,
It is a stunningly beautiful area, you must come and take a look. Then again, there are so many stunningly beautiful areas in France!

Yes, had a great time buying up lovely bits and pieces. My favourite buy was the art nouveau garniture that I have listed on Ebay (280873602342). It has such a great French look and the little angel is sooooo gorgeous!

  5. Hi Jane & Lance,
Thank you so much for your lovely comments, Dianne has been so kind to me. I am so excited to find you! Budapest is my all time favourite city. I arrived there for the first time in 2001 after cycling from Vienna (never been back on a bike since!!) and fell head over heels in love with not only Budapest but Hungary too.
My husband and I have been back once since then but it is still our intention to go back by car and follow the route that I took on a bicycle. I remember the bliss that my friend and I felt at the city baths after a week of pedalling miles. I also remember the fabulous old nunnery that had been converted into a hotel in Gyor. Great memories.
I also have a number of friends over here who have links with Brighton, either living there before or having family there.
I will follow you with relish.
    Thank you

  6. Hello Janette:
First, thank you so much for becoming a Follower and a very warm welcome to you.

We were most interested to learn that you have visited Hungary, although the time when you cycled from Vienna was, we think, some achievement and we should certainly recommend a different method of transport for your next visit. Less need of the thermal baths on arrival!

Whatever, if at any point you decide to come again, as we very much hope that you will, then do, please, let us know and we shall be thrilled to show you and your husband some of the less obvious sights.

  8. Hi Elizabeth,
Thank you so much for following me and I completely agree with you, Di is an angel without wings!

I am new to this blogging thing but it is great the way that there seems to be an inbuilt friend / support network that comes with it. It is so heartening.

I am now also following you and I love the look of your yummy baking. I will have to try the cinammon recipe - cinammon is one of my favourite flavours. I do a cinammon and raspberry torte, the recipe was given to me by a friend a few years back and I have nearly worn it out!

Thanks and I look forward to following you and pinching some of your recipes.
