Olive Auction

I saw this the other day and was astounded at the price, but I don't know why it is a thousand years old.   There is to be an auction of wonderful old olive trees on Septemer 30th in the Haut-Garonne.  This is a picture of one of the most expensive, with an estimate of 110,000 to 120,000 euros.  Yes, that really is the estimate and I have not made a mistake and added a nought that should not be there...........

Can you imagine digging the hole for it and driving home with it on your trailer?

So eventually, we will have a real money spinner on our hands, when our little baby olive tree reaches the size of its great grand pappy........... Now where did I put the baby bio.........

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend.

À Bientôt.

  1. Wow, how much! It mush be a few hundred years old. I wonder if it produces a bumper crop. Do olives get better the older the tree?
    Have a great weekend.

  2. Hi Di,
Yes a thousand or more, the auction is entitled: OLIVIERS MILLENAIRES - SCULPTURES VIVANTES DE L'EMPIRE ROMAIN

So living sculptures of the Roman Empire - wow! Not sure about their fruit, would assume they are for garden/landscape design but not sure.
You have a great weekend too.

  3. Hello Janette:
We are very conscious of the high price of olive trees from all that friends of ours, who have a house in Provence, tell us. But the estimate for this one is, as you say, absolutely fantastic.

  4. Hello,
Yes, I could not believe the estimate when I saw it. The cheapest estimate was 1500, to 2000 euros but the others were between 30,000 and 60,000.
